Help! electrical ticking

Hi,
I have a 1988 f150 5spd 302 4x2. I Just replaced the starter and relay, but it still makes an odd ticking sound when the starter is engaged, it sounds like it does when the battery is near dead, except it starts up without hesitation. Any help is always appreciated.
