ok guys, i have a minor problem with my brakes on an 87 f150 4x4 4spd. ever once in a while when i depress the brake pedal, i find that my rear antilock light and brake light will come on. this is intermittent and the light will go off if i turn the ignition off. i did notice that when it comes on, i have a high, hard pedal but the braking power is the same as it always is. the lines have no air in them, all cylinders and seals are intact and ive checked the wires running from the master cylinder clear to the rear end with no signs of damage. anything will help, thank you in advance.
There are "flash out codes" for the RABS, the only thing i could find with both lights was "4 yellow abs flashes and red brake light illuminated - RABS valve switch closed"
i appreciate your input it helps me out, however, i tried to pull codes using my otc 4000 enhanced and returned nothing at all. i hate to throw parts at it without knowing the exact problem so i guess ill keep plugging away...
I pulled codes from my ABS computer, was pretty easy. I got my instructions from my Chilton manual. Only took about 10 minutes to get the codes, was pretty easy.
alright joe, i understand youre trying to help but i just said that no codes were present. period. tried with koeo and koer and nothing at all showed up. i suspect a ground like was mentioned and im weary of that rabs but i have to get time to check it out in depth. so far i have no ironclad leads to be too sure of what exactly is to blame
One thing I forgot to mention was my instructions for getting the codes weren't exactly clear in my book.
The book said to remove the connector from the ABS computer and then find the blk-org wire and ground that ahd replace the connector to the ABS computer. Doing things in that order didn't prodice any codes, what I had to do was leave the connector on the ABS computer and tap the blk-org wire and ground it, once I did the ABS light in the instrument clister started flashing codes. All of this was done with koeo...hope this helps.
As your truck is newer make sure you do research with the wires and such, I would hate for you to use these directions word for word and fry the computer.
Did you check you brake fluid level????There is a sensor in the master that if the fluid goes below a certian level, it will trigger both the abs/park brake light.
joe, thanks, i found out what you were explaining about 2 hours ago form my haynes book. i think tomorrow after work ill try it and see what it produces. hopefully ill see some results. thank you guys...
