Front Bearings or CV Joint?

I have a 97 F-150 in which I replaced both front bearings due to a bad squealing noise. I drive to and from work everyday on a gravel road in which these bearings pick up a lot of dust.
Racerguy you mention of a more pronounced grinding noise when turning one way or another, could this be an indication of an inner bearing going or the front wheel bearing again?
I do get a fair amount of roadnoise as I am running BF Goodrich Commercial M&S tires, but this is a grinding feeling I feel in my feet when turning through right hand curve at 40 mile per hour or more.
I also notice the front wheels bind up when 4x4 is engaged, is this an indication of the CV joint needing service? could this be my problem?

If it is the wheel bearing and it is grinding bad enough to feel it through the floor board, you should be able jack the truck up so that the front wheel is off the ground and then grab the tire at the top and the bottom and feel some play in it. If you do not feel anything, then I would suspect the CV shaft. hopefully it is the CV shaft as they are about half the price of the wheel bearings.

I'm chasing the same exact problem. My noise is comming from the driver side of the truck, it goes away when I go through a right turn. Not a sharp turn but like on the highway going through a right hand bend.

I would also rotate the tires front to back and see if the sound changes. It's pretty easy to be fooled by noisy tires.

Have you tried listening to the front wheel bearings with the wheels off the ground? It can be very hard to hear or feel where the noise is coming from. Quite often if you remove the brakes you'll be able to hear or feel it better when you spin the hub slowly by hand.
