Yeah What is the ol'man using to turn the wheels? Oh And What Intake Did you pick up? Hopefully it's a Performer RPM, Have you thought about headers, cause the stock exhaust manifolds are absolutely terrible, big difference with headers.
When you go shopping for a tranny, be sure to get one for the FE bolt pattern. It's unique in the Ford family. Just like a BOP tranny won't bolt to a chevy.
Yea my dad told me that about boring the cylinders too. I brought the heads to carquest becuase my buddies dad works there and does all the machining. He has always done my dads work and the work on my snowmobiles and he seems to do a pretty good job. The intake I ordered is an Edelbrock Performer built for low end torque and throttle response i guess. I did order hedders, they are Hedman Street Hedders from Summit racing. I really like these hedders. Its what my dad uses. My dads truck is a 72 chevy with a 4 speed tranny. It has a 350 bored .030 over with a mild cam, Brodix heads which are supposed to add about 160 ponies. MSD distributor, lightweight pistons and rods, edelbrock intake, and a 700 cfm Holley carb. His truck should have 450 to 500 ponies, it has some ***** and I love it but i just think it would be awesome if I stomped all over him. I'm going to need to look at differential ratios I think. Anyway I'm having a blast. Thanks for the advice.
Carquest??? Good luck! I'd plan on touching 'em up after they're done.
Which Crane cam did you order?
I guess I should ask, what are you competing against? As in, what motor does his have, modifications, etc?
Just like any machine shop, it depends on the shop and who's doing the work. Carquest in Brainerd, MN is the place to go, especially for a street project. That guy can really build 'em.
I wish I could do all this with my 360. I still have to get my 460 truck finished. By the time it's done, I won't be able to buy gas for either.
I've always liked Car Quest. That Blue Streak parts line they used to sell was quality stuff that lasted forever. The local one we had was run by an old guy that used to build and race cars. One sharp old guy, the kind that you could go to the counter and tell him you need the thingamajig that always goes bad in Fords and he'd know what you were talking about. He'd go out in the parking lot and help you work on your car too. He finally retired and sold his store to [shudder] Federated and they promptly drove the store into the ground and out of business.

For what you're doing, you got the wrong intake. If you're going against 450 to 500hp, that isn't going to cut it. I'd be looking at a single plane intake. Go here:
Probably the "390-428 Streetmaster single plane" would get the job done. It comes with instructions to modify it so it flows better; definately do that.
appropriate for my assembly? Also, assuming I go with the crane 343901 cam that you recommended, will the 427 Ford Adjustable Pushrods be the correct length for my build? Finally, do you have any recommendations for vendors of the crane product?
