I don't mind loaning tools out but what really chaps my butt is when they miss use it or leave out side over night in the rain.

loaning tools??

My usual respose is "only if I can borrow your wife".

I don't borrow tools from anyone. If I don't have the right tool I will go and buy it. Thats the nice thing about working for an industrial distributor. We can but tools, and supplies here for cost.

The only person that gets to borrow my tools is my step father because I know that he'll take good care of them and return them in a timely manner.

loaning tools??

Loaning my tools is like loaning my truck - the only way is if I go with them (the only exceptions to this rule are my Dad and my father-in-law. In both cases, the tools come back in as good a shape, if not better, then when they left).

loaning tools??

I have a select few friends who I will loan my tools to and I know they're coming back the way I lent them. Sometimes with a new blade if it's a saw.

We pay too much for our tools to be loaning them out *****-nilly!!

Fordzzzz77- Your neighbors must love you!!

My oldest son must be your son's brother. He not only leaves it out to rust, but you have to go get/find it....and he's 40 years old...like, man, that's what he did with his bicycle at 6 years old. As for neighbors, I engrave all my mechanic/ carpenter tools and hope that they return...which they usually do. Manual labor tools are painted with a red stripe on the handles...but out here in the country I don't have to worry about that much anymore.

Tigerman
it's a good idea to mark tools...i have friends come over with their
own tools..it helps when we start sorting them out. I use a cheap electric engraving tool on anything steel.
My son will be 30 this year..he is learning to put stuff back..after he tore up a new mower when he hit a boxed end wrench....but..it all belonged to him.lol

loaning tools??

Never loan MY tools but I will lend out my beginners sets. I had bought many "kits" over the years from walmart and Cummings (traveling) tool shows. If I don't get it back, I just keep hounding them until I do.
