what really belongs?

everytime i sink into the ranger and b-series forum i always ask myself the smae qeustion. Why arn't all the engine qestions not posted in the spacific forums dedicated to them? Alot of the time i see people asking engine direct qestions(Ie. what ignition would best fit my 2.9, or How do you remove those hard to get spark plugs from the 4.0). It makes me qestion what this forum is really dedicated for, all things envolving rangers & B-series, or everything everything but engine related qestions. If it is the first then why is there really need for the engine section. If the later can we switch/move all the missplace links? If so wouldn't this free up alot of space in this forum and maybe place people amongst a group who could really lead them in indepth direction.

i think its just that the "ranger-b series" forum comes up first before the engine forums so we stop here. plus i think all of us ranger guys...and gals like to stick together, besides, the 3.0 they may be taliking about in the engine forum maybe out of a taurus!

Having managed large sites myself, my experience is too many choices makes people gravitate towards the one they can quickly scan visually that looks right. ... And many just don't seem to read what's been posted...

Unless someone is managing every single posting, I doubt that postings will wind up in the appropriate forums all the time. IMHO, a certain amount of off-topic chatter actually lends a sense of community to the board as well.

I would guess that many people, including myself, think "Oh I have a Ranger, lemme go ask in the Ranger forum". It really doesn't occur to me to go to a specific engine forum to ask about a timing belt for a 2.3, or about spark plugs for a 4.0... although I agree that dividing them in their respective forums seems to make good sense from an organizational standpoint...

You are probably right in your point about people getting better advice in the correct forum, but I suspect that many get 'comfortable' here, and never venture into other areas of the site.

i agree with the last post. for instance i had a ? about my alternator so i asked my ? in the engine forum. it took a week for someone to reply and it was only one person. i asked the exact ? in this forum and i got more feedback than i new what to do with. the off topic chatter i welcome and is somewhat comforting, like i'm taliking with a bunch of good friends which personally i find very cool. with that said...i love you guys! i know, i'm not getting your bud-light! lol!

yeah i do agree with the fact that since this comes first people ignore the engine forum. But i think that if the post were showing up in the right area you would start getting more answers. though i mainly hoped that this would even out both forums so people can get help easily instead of one forum being compleatly clutter with qestions. i think it is nice to have a family feel to the sight but i also think people shouldn't bescared to exsplore the other parts of the forum where they can descover a larger friend base, more answers, and maybe a new passion.

i have tried other forum like the illinois chapter one. the last post was about two weeks ago. i've been in the 3.0 forum, accessory forum and the f150 forum but nothing compares to this one.
