352 running rough
I've got a 72' f100 w/ a 352 (not original motor)
I recently pulled the intake, valve covers and carb, with the sole intention of just cleaning them up, painting them, and reinstalling them.
The motor ran 'ok' before all that... the back side of the intake leaked like crazy tho, so it was worth all the back breaking labor to pull that sucker out. I think, also.. I had a vaccum leak or two.
Anyways, like I said, I reinstalled everything, changed out my stock throttle linkages for cables, all new gaskets for everything removed, oil change, full tank of gas, flushed the cooling system, new plugs and installed a new battery.
With that brief history, here lies the problems. Initially, I had a hard time getting her started, but solved that problem with a few timing adjustments. Once running, it ran really rough. At idle, things seemed fine... good oil pressure, no smoke, staying cool.... but when I gave it some throttle, it missed like crazy. I checked for vaccum leaks, but no sign of a problem.
Next thing I know, my fuel pump goes out. Is it possible the fuel pump was causing this erratic accelleration? Or do I have deeper issues than that? I have not installed a new fuel pump yet, and plan to tomorrow... I'm just curious if anyone has any suggestions for other possible issues causing this behavior. any help would be appreciated.
