1979 f250

I'm looking at buying a 79 F250 its got a 351m, np435, np205 transfer case, dana 60 rear, but I'm not 100% positive about the front axle. I do believe 79 250's only came with front and rear dana 60s, but someone told me the other day it might be a HD 8lug Dana 44. The axle has alot of grime build up so i cant look at the metal tag on it. Both axles have the same number of bolts holding the cover and both have drain plugs.
Help me out how could I be sure what it is? Did the 79 F250 indeed only come with front and rear 60's?
thanx

Most F250s came with Dana 44 front axles. The Dana 60 was a fairly rare option. Chances are you have a 44 but it's possible you have a 60. Get the axle codes off the tag inside the drivers door and plug them into the VIN decoder at this site: [link:www.medicine.wisc.edu/~mrm/bronco/|Bronco Page]

its most likely a 44 unless it has a snowplow package or its a ext cab?, you should be able to tell two ways, on the dana 44 the drag link coming from the pitman arm goes up under the steering arm, on a 60, the draglink goes on top of the steering arm, and also, look on the passenger side of the pumpkin and you should find a 44 stamped into the steel, or a 60, best of luck, hope ya got a 60 under there

it is probally a dana 44 unless it a snow plow truck and if it was that it would probally have a dana 70 rear. (if it is a 60 it is worth alot of a money to the right person)
