No it doesn't make a difference cause the mini spool is only going to use a single pin. but full spools on evil bay run under $100 and I just bought a billet steel full spool 31 spline new for mine for right at $100. Full spool weighs half as much as a mini spool and since your changing gears anyway so are going to put in new bearings why put in something that is half as strong and twice as heavy. JMHO

i agree 100% with monster. I've heard of too many people snapping the crosspin with mini-spools. Not too mention, you get a nice brand new carrier and it'll be stronger.
I second the mini-spool. I've had one in my 78 F150 460 4x4 w/35" tires for 4 years and have had no problems. I didn't know about the new cross pin at the time so I've been using the stock one from the spider gears. As soon as I get the ambition to take the whole thing apart again, I'll be replacing the pin.
Best thing about the spool or mini-spool as opposed to welding, is it's reversible (as stated above).
