My 2005 X PSD 4x4 EB with 22k miles has some gremlins running around in it. List of OCCASIONAL problems. Also, keep in mind these don't start or stop when the truck is running...they will ONLY begin or end when the truck is re-started.
-key fob won't lock the truck (usually inop from 1 restart to 1 day).
-AC controls go dead..auto climate control. Never dies or starts working when the truck is running...ONLY when restarted. (usually lasts less than a day). The dealer actually saw this one and says it is the control unit and are going to replace it. This has only died 3 times in 4 months.
-when the truck is running... open any of the doors and the truck doesn't beep (one quick beep) to tell you that a door is open. It works about 50% of the time.
The dealer just shrugs and says there isn't much they can do. They are woking on the AC and he has witnessed the door chime but doesn't know what to do.
Sorry the long post but this is driving me nuts!!!! COULD THIS BE A BAD PCM? WOULD A REFLASH FIX IT? HELP!!
Can you video tape the problems them approach it as a lemon? Might scare the dealer enough to get them to take it seriously.. and if they still don't do anything then try for a buy back? Good luck!
Always be nice, but remember, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.
My 05 climate controls have gone out several times at start up. I have also experienced the key fob not unlocking the rear doors. I am taking it in tomorrow and will let you know the results.
Mwachel, is the domelight working correctly? How about the autolamps?
If either of these 2 circuits are affected also, I would start to think there is a problem with one specific module or perhaps a microprocessor in the cluster.
There are several modules that communicate with each other and the cluster to do simple things like lighting up an led for the door ajar indicator and turning on the domelight. I'm confident the a/c controls communicate also. They need to see if there are any codes and fix the bad component.
in my 31 years as a tech (we used to be called mechanics) whenever you have something weird going on, look for grounds, bad connections, or low battery power.
sounds like something may have a bad or broken ground some ware or as above a bad control unit, maybe even one of the door locks has gone bad, thats been posted before in fte.
as a retired tech i feel a scan by ford of all the systems is the starting point as almost all of the scanners non dealer. will at the most do engine auto trans, abs and air bag i know others will only do the motor, but both my snap-on and my mac tools will do only the major 4 .
also pull your fuses 1 at a time and see if one blew. esp. if it feeds more then one circuit . seen that many times also cause a back feed and mess up anothher curcuit
good luck..
I'll chime in here with my story. I have a 2000 F350 4x4. Started doing the following: Prior to starup, everything worked fine. After startup, the 4x4 ESOF would work for 4x4 but not 4x4 low, Interior light NS when door opened, chime would stay on until E-brake released and a few other "odd" things. I troubleshot for some time, even tried a new GEM (Ford Suggestion) to no avail. Finally, I took every electrical connection apart, both under hood & dash. Cleaned them and applied dieletric grease. Reassembled - Voila!! No more problem. Hope this helps someone out there - nearly drove me nuts!!
