I've seen a number of replies here lately that refer to how conservative the members of FTE are. There's no doubt about that. And, I've never been afraid to refer to myself as liberal, but that's only in comparison to most people here. Compared to all of America, my personal views are really quite moderate. But my views are still at odds with most people here, and here's my point. This would be a damn boring site if everyone expressed the same point of view. I mean, it is called a "forum," isn't it? And isn't a forum a place where different people exchange different points of view? So, when I make a statement, when I throw out a zinger at someone, it's just to offer a different viewpoint. It's not to get anyone angry or all fired up. I think one of the greatest qualities of our nation is the subject I gave to this post: that no matter what, we can always respect each others opinions, no matter how much we might disagree about them. The ability to agree that we CAN disagree, yet still remain a nation united. That's what keeps us strong at home.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go polish my ACLU card, cash my welfare check, and replace the light bulb over my framed and personally-autographed photo of William Jefferson Clinton. (I don't know why I just can't resist doing s*** like that. Just a trouble-maker at heart, I guess.)

A liberal with a sense of humor!!
Now that was good! Your points are correct and well received. Please post more! :-X12
I'm quite conservative but agreed with your view in the Trent Lott post. Maybe we can get along.
Heard a good one from Bobcat Goldfarb, When William Jefferson Clinton (D) was saying, "I did not have sex with that woman", JFK (D) and RFK (D) slapped their foreheads and said, "You mean we didn't have to kill Marilyn?"
ha ha ha It doesn't matter how wrong you are I'll still listen to ya, Mark! A liberal with a sense of humor is a hell of a lot better than a "moderate" with no clue as to what's goin' on!
Worry not, my good man. We're very accepting here, we just may like to shout at ya on occasion. I myself am fairly conservative, yet my best friend is very liberal. I can't tell you how many times we've wasted a perfectly good evening debating something completely inconsequential just to try to prove one side. Despite us rarely agreeing, I'd trust him with my life and vice versa. There's no reason we can't "all just get along".

"right" on man...
Many people that utilize the "forums" forget that there is a difference between a "forum" and a "soapbox"....in the words of the great philosopher "Hannibal Lecter": Quid pro quo clarisse, quid pro quo...
To everyone who responded: Thank You. My respect for this site and everyone who's a part of it has always been high, but it has skyrocketed based on what I've read here. I'm not comfortable going into personal details, but I do want to say this: the holidays have never been a good time for me, and they're especially tough this year, for various reasons. The time I've spent here lately (and I've spent a LOT of time here) has definitely helped, but the responses to this post are probably the best gift I could ask for. I'm indebted to all of you for your friendship and camaraderie; it really means a lot. Let me wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a happy, safe, and joyous New Year. No other group I know is more deserving.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Dec-02 AT 09:25 PM (EST)]I've read your posts for awhile and for someone from "the other side", you're a very likable guy. Plus you're a fellow upstate New Yorker (I'm in Utica). You're alright in my book
