I didn't look, but I don't think you'll see a great performance increase. What sort of applicastions do you use your computer for? Gaming, Video editing, Photo editing word processing, surfing the net?
Unless you are doing some CPU intensive stuff, you wont notice much difference. You could also most likely add some RAM to your machine now.
well we do quite a bit with photos, a little gaming, lookin at video clips, I mainly look at my car sites and use the net for car parts. It would be nice to be able to burn a dvd though.
Don't fool around with big box stores like Best Buy or others.
Just Go to a local reputable specialty computer store and thave them build you a computer.
They will be competitive in their pricing and if something happens you can just take the tower for them to look at.
Big Box store provide Warranty ,the company expects you to pack up thew whole computer and send it away leaving you with nothing.
I agree with Jake, you probably won't see much increase in performance, unless you are running very CPU intensive applications. Adding more memory wouldn't hurt, though.
The other thing is that if you have been using your current system for a long time without much maintenance/clean-up, Windows could be getting slower. (Spyware, for one thing.) And, if your hard drive is nearly full, that will slow the machine down, so try cleaning out some old files if that is the case.
i agree with mil1on and john deere, stay away from those convient for consumer stores, if you want a better deal and better performance, then go to a local shop and get one made, and try cleaning this comp out and seeing what upgrades you can do to save yourself money and still get what you are looking for.
as far as performance upgrade, i don't know what you do with your comp but depending on that, you may or may not see any noticable improvement in performance, some programs only need so much performance.
from my personnel experience, i always go with dell, i have 7 dell computers now for various job applications(all laptops) and the xps is a gaming computer but the same requirments for gaming make these custom job programs run great. and if something is wrong with the comp, the dell tech will come out to your house and fix it. i make money with my comps so reliabilty and performance is important. and no! i don't make any money from promoting dell!!!!!!!!!!
I just built a comp for my friend last weekend, We went over to fry's and picked up some decent sale items. For around 1,100 bucks he ended up with a P4 2.8, a gig of ram, Gigabit mobo with PCI express, 100 gig sata HD, Dual layer DVD burner, Antec Sonata case with 380 w PS, Logitec keyboard and mouse, Plus a really nice HP all in one print scan fax deskjet printer with duplex printing. Wireless router and access point for his wifes laptop.
The best part for me was shopping on his dime, man I was going round the store like one of those all you can buy in two minute contests.
