Is the 4.6 and 5.4 tritons sohc or dohc in the pick ups? I thought I heard the econolines were dohc. Just wondering. Thinking about buying one I own a mark vlll right now but would like a truck too. Love ford trucks dad has a 87 E-150 with over 330,000 on original engine and trany also its a work truck all miles are work miles no probs runs great, only thing is either its a vacuum leak or idle gear were when its cold it wont go into drive takes a few minutes to warm up. Great truck uncle owned a 92 chevy van 10 with the 6 that is a 350 block with the 2 cylinders cut off after 3 engines and tranys he gave up swore up and down his truck was better now he says the complete opposite but says are truck is a marical truck I say Its not a marical Its a Ford, lol. Oh yeah the van has the 4.9 300 inline 6 injected with auto 4-spd one of the best motors ever made. I know people with early 80 late 70 with 500,000 mile 302 or 351 work trucks. When u have so many trucks with the age and mileage theres no doubt theres alot of quality and dependability in these trucks, no wonder were the best sellers for almost 30 yrs straight.
SOHC are better at making torque, where as DOHC are better at making HP, so almost all are SOHC. Heres a good link someone posted in another thread here that list what engines are in what.
From what i read then from the link above, ford still uses plastic intake manifolds? I thought they discontinued that do to cracking, I know many people with grand marquis and vics that need to go out and spend 4-500 bucks get fix. Or is it like pre 98 models cause I thought they stoped that like 97 or 98.
