I've currently got a '68 F100 with a 360 and a 4bbl intake from a 390. I'm considering buying an older Edelbrock Streetmaster single-plane intake, or possibly a new Edelbrock Performer dual-plane intake. Does anybody have any suggestions one way or the other? I'm looking for daily driveability, with a little fuel economy. I've got a 600 cfm carb on it currently. Thanks.
I think that your criterion of mileage and driveability point to the dual plane manifold over the single plane. I have an Edelbrock performer 390 that I was using until I tore my 390 down. I was using an Edelbrock 600cfm w/ it. I will say that the aluminum is much lighter than the stocker iron manifold although sealing the ends is a chore. I don't think you can use too much RTV there. I wasn't useing the end gaskets as per edelbrocks instructions.
Thanks for the advice; it pretty much confirms what I had been thinking. Do you still have that Performer 390, and are you not using it? That's the other intake that I'm looking into buying.
Richard, If you already have a 4 barrel intake on the engine you might want to leave it until you have to rebuild the engine. You will never recover the cost of the new manifold with any kind of savings or performance. Adding the Pertronix kit in the dist. might be your best money spent.
Just another nickel in the ring.

I'm happy with the performance of the stock 4bbl intake; it's just a beast to remove/install and I was hoping to replace it with something a bit lighter. The cost is clearly not going to be recovered.
On the single-plane intake, my understanding is that this is more suited to higher-RPM and racing conditions. Is this correct? If this is the case, then clearly this is not the intake for me, especially since I've already had the dual-plane recommended.
look at the name of the single plane 'streetmaster' it's a small runner high velocity intake. It's RPM range is 0-4000 from what I heard, but it can be opened up extensively to flow for high RPM too
