I'm looking at swapping out the dana 44 and procomp33at for a dana60 and 38.5 gumbo mudders. I found a guy who will sell 85% gumbo's and a dana 60 for 1900. I'm in minnesota so its a little tougher to find this stuff too. What do you think on the price. What would be a steal, deal, and rip off.
thanks
country
you didnt say what vehicle it was for, but usually a front d60 is pretty rare, costing over 1k. and 200 bucks for good tires that big aint bad. it still sounds a little high but if you got the money and it is what you want, sometimes you gotta grab it while you can find it
Gumbo Mudders run about $200-$230 each brand new for bias ply. I assume they are bias because if they're radials then they're for a 15" rim and that won't clear the calipers on the D60 he's selling you in the first place. They need to be the 16.5" tire. Anyway, life on a bias tire is short, they're at about 85% tread. That generally doesn't bring a close to new price. I sold a set of four 39" Swampers and managed to get $400 out of them with the wheels. They were at 90% tread and the Swamper is a lot more tire than a Gumbo Mudder (a lot more sought after too). Used bias "mud" tires shouldn't be bringing a price anywhere close to what they do new.
I guess all I'm saying is don't get too caught up on the tires in this deal. Get a good price on the axle. These bigger tires are not that easy to move on their own, the seller most likely knows he could be sitting on them a while. If you wanted a brand spaking new set you could have them for $900 and for the same price there's much better mud tires available.
thanks for the advice guys, specially capn. I'm gonna look into it for sure, 1200 for the axle is a tad high, but i know its good, its close, and more credible comin from a 4x4 shop than some odd ball out of ebay. I'm gonna keep my eyes out for tires. I guess this guy will give me some cash for my frnt dana 44 on a trade in so that might help too.
if ya got anymore advice send it my way
