I have a 1977 F150 with full-time 4WD, NP 203 transfer case. The speedometer cable is attached to the output of the transfer case. Unfortunately, it is lacking the speedo gear in the T-case. I have called the Ford dealership in the area, but they want to know what color the current speedo gear is (Hard for them to understand there is no gear). The truck has a C6 automatic, and a 9" Ford rear axle with 3.50 gearing. The rear tires are 31 x 10.5. Does anyone have a chart for speedo gears? Are these speedo gears different than ones in the transmission? Thanks in advance for your help.
oh dear I pitty you. I went through the same ordeal only I had my old gears. but it didn't help none. if there is a gear on the end of the cable, it should be the same color as the one in the t-case. all I can say is good luck, your going to need it
Jeremy, pull the speedo cable out of the tranny. Put your finger in the hole and press downward. You should feel the gear in there that the gear on the end of the speedo cable would mesh with. I would suggest that you start with a 20 tooth gear and go from there. I believe that 20T is red. I have one that I'll swap with you for a 15T right angle pitch.
