Question Blower Resistor

I have a /99 Ranger, as I'm sure you can all guess. The problem being, the blower only works on high. I've purchased the new resistor and removed the old one, however I can't get the electrical plug off, seems to be rusted on solid. Due to the weather I replace the old one back in the truck, at least I had the blower on high. Anyone know where I can get a new or used plug to replace the one on there now as I'll must likely have to cut the old one off to replace the resistor with the new one. Thanks Ranger99vlj

Hi and welcome to FTE! Be sure to read this to help you around this site: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...88#post3272088

Thanks for visiting us in the Ontario Chapter. Be sure to check it out from time to time.

I moved your thread to the Ranger forum where some people should help you. But, Your best bet is to buy a new wiring harness AND resistor pack. That way you cut the old wiring off and solder and shrink wrap the new one on. Put some dielectric grease between the new plug and resistor pack. You can get one of those anywhere but I would go to a dealership. They are not priced too badly compared to a Canadian Tire, for example. You should be less than $100 for the resistor pack AND harness (probably closer to $60-70).

See ya on the boards!

On my old truck I had the same problem. I ended up getting a new resistor pack and connector block from Ford and a package of connector pins from Auto Zone. I think the connector block was about $10 at the dealer. Then I cut the old one off and soldered the new pins onto the wires and shoved them back into the connector. Worked like a charm.

Well seems like the dealership is the way to go on this one. Already have a new resistor pack. Checked with one dealer here, and he has the wiring harness, approx. $30. Picking it up on Monday. Now if the temp. will go up again, I'll attempt the repair for the second time. Again thanks Matt & Jim

Not a problem. Just make sure you solder and shrink wrap those wires on there. Make sure you come back to the Ontario Chapter!

Well, the weather was pretty good here yesterday, not like today--raining, so I managed to get the old resistor out and the new one in with the new wiring harness and I'm pleased to annouce I now have all 4 blower speeds again. Not a bad repair cost wise, including grease and shrink wrap -- about $65.

Thanks Van

I had the same problem on my 98. I used a small screwdriver and was finally able to pry the conector off but it took some time and a lot of patients. I could have done it alone if I had three hands but as it was, I had to have a friend help me. I dug the rust out and used a generous amount of dielectirc grease before connecting the new resistor. If I would have broken the factory conector , I intended on using individual wire ends like PSKSAM2 suggested. That was last spring and I still have all the blower speeds.

Glad you got it fixed! I told you it would cost around $60-70. Yesterday was definetly nicer than today! Lots of rain here too.
