I am getting ready to replace my second gas tank on my Ford F150 for the second time in 14 yrs. Is there anything I can do now to slow/stop the leak on my new tank in the future?Paint it? rust proof it?
i have 1992 flareside and live in upstate ny and have replaced a tank just 4 years ago due to rust(winter salt on roads)iam going to undercoat this one which worked on last tank very well on 88 bronco.just remember to under coat again along straps after its been install i find that this is were i always get leaks from salt that gets trapped in the gap between stap and tank and eats
thru tank.but you got 14 years on 2 tanks is good to me if you undercoat you probably would ever repalce again
Why don't you try a plastic tank this time? I wish I had known about them before I replaced both of mine with steel again. They are the same price I think.
Plastic's a little bit more, not much. One user who lived in Michigan said that he has used both. Steel rusts and plastic cracks due to the cold and in the end they last about the same.
you guys might think this is stupid but Rhino line or a verison there of. My uncle uses it on his truck his plow truck in maine. He bought a 06 f350 7.3L and he had the chassis and most steel have a coat of liner. Did it to all of his trucks and they dont have a **** spot of rust.
