Air intake qtns

ok i've got a 90 b2 2.9L, i've wanted to put a cai on it and i keep reading about the neon kits used by people, so i have a few qtns about things.
-what are the two cable things that run out of the stock intake box?and what do they do? what happens without them?
-what is the exact model(s) to use on my truck, does the model have like the little things that the stock box has?
-if you cant take those cable things off and the cai doesnt have them could you cut a hole in the tuibe and place them in it or would that screw stuff up?

thanks for any help you can give its greatly appreciated.

-josh

ps im also looking for aftermarket hoods if anyone knows of some that look good id like to know of them.

your in luck well so am i cuase im doing the same thing lol i guess you can call it a good setup with the MAP ecu design of the engine what this does is it uses manifold absolute pressure to decide the fuel and air mixture other desings have a mass air flow sensor often located in the middle of the intake tube which makes this more complex to do the little lines you see are for a cold start system that pre-heats air when the engine starts up in cold weather there nothing to worry about and can go out if you dont mind waiting about 2 to 4 mins extra in winter for you engine to warm up a little im taking mine out also all vacum lines go to the trottle body also making this alot easier to do there is one line going to the cold start system that is a vacum line once you remove the device its connected to its best to plug the tube end up so you wont have a vacum leak

so the new filter in going to be directly on the manifold? or on the end of the air tube thats already there? what if i got another tube to mess with and another stock air box and then took the cables and the thing they plug into and make a hole in the other tube, so i wouldnt have to worry about warming it up longer.

thanks for any more help

i didnt quite get what you meant by that but you could get the dodge neon intake and that would work another thing is yes buying just the filter and putting it right on to the trottle body which most likley is the less restricive setup and would get the most hp gain o dont think the warm up thing works at all on my bronco II and the warm up time is about 2 mins so you shouldnt be afraid to remove it

Ok so I take it ....You use the hose that is on there ok then add a cone filter to it. Also just plug all the lines going to the box to cancel vacuum issue ... Now how much in inches would you say to leave on '''black tube'''''', all the way to the box or where abouts cause iId love to do this too.

well actually what i meant was could you get rid of the box entirely then get another tube and another box from a junker b2 then cut a hole in the tube from the junker and then cut the little hose plugin thing from the junker box and then put the hose plugin thing into the hole in the junker tube. dont know how much sense that makes at all or if its even possible. my main thing is to not have to wait even longer than i do to warm my car up, not to have to worry about the vacuum line thing and not to put a cone filter on the end of the manifold(no offense to anyone, i just dont like that look).
thanks for the help so far(any more ideas or suggestions would be great)

wait what do you mean?
im talking about taking the plugins from the air box, then cut a hole for the plugins to fit into on the tube near the filter not the manifold. make sense?

if not i can try and take a pic and show you.
thanks for the brainstorming so far.

dont worry about the tubes there no big deal at all trust me you wont even see any differnce at all in performance when it is warmed up dont be afriad and connecting those tubes to the intake tube do nothing at all!! you need the air box becuase inside the air is a little valve with decides to add warm air ( froma cowl around the manifold) or cool air ( from a air intake hole in the air box) depending on engine temp unless you have the stock airbox still there with the air tube conected the tubes do nothing at all if your looking to put a free-er flowing filter on get one that fits in the box that looks like the oem filter OR ditch the box and have a proformance intake tube and highflow filter

does the cai from the neon have a performance intake tube or do you know?
and what do you do with the plugs then? i know the one goes to the intake manifold and the other goes down somewhere, so what do i do to each of them(like plug them but with what and where)

thank you very very much

broncoIInoob....

1) I got the stock box ok with a k@n in it .....what if I cut the tube that runs to the outside air in the grill right off at the box.......

2) If I was to take the box right out can I just stick a cone filter on the end on the tube that is in there right now from the intake....

broncobilly ok for # 1 cutting the tube off that goes to the grill will prolly make you lose horsepower sence the air is colder at the end of that tube then it is genrally inside the engine and sence removing that tube wont add you any airflow to make up for warmer air its piontless to do

#2 yes you can do that and it will add you more flow than removing that pipe but i think tht intake tube will bounce around a little too much idk what im trying to do is slam a filter cone right onto the trottle body although this is right behind the radiator im not so sure if i should really do this ill prolly get that dodge neon intake

B2-- as i saw on ebay yes it dose the hose that goes down somwhere goes to the cold/warm air valve inside on the bottom of the box and will come still attached when you remove the box i think plug off the hose going from the trottle body so you dont hav a hose hanging doing nothing plug it right at the trottle body

Ok I see what you mean but to cut it off would make me be forced to use the warm air in the engine compartment like ya say ...But would not that be the case with a cone filter at the end of the intake ...Same air in there ......But I think you would be right that the cone would get more flow going, then it going threw the k@n then box to intake ....The true thing to have is I guess a hood scoop or snokel to get the best cooler air and flow..TR

or a homemade cold air intake but then offorad drivability is shot by doing into a puddle lol and what i meant was if your sucking in warm air flow is very cruical its not that the cone will not suck in hot air its that it will suck more air in period counteracting the fact that the air is warm more good luck with what ever you decide to do
