The Uaw leaders told the local of the new engines, since this is on the UAW 1250 we site I guess we can say it is in the public domain. A 6.2 V8 Boss gasoline engine, and a new 4.4l V8 DIESEL for f150 and explorer and several new models. Horespower? Well around 330 for the diesel the Boss v8 truck engine should be around 400.
God Bless Mark Fields the new head of Ford the America's as he is the one who insisted that he needed these to help turn the company around.
Just go to the UAW local 1250 web site and read the in-plant leaflet from the local president for January 17. It tells you everything but the Horsepower numbers which are confidential at this time. Also 2 new v6 engines from the cyclone 3.5l a new 3.7l and a new 4.0l turbocharged v6. Lots of busy people these days.
I posted this about the 4.4 several months ago as the future diesel for the F-150 but was blown off as everybody "knew" that the 4.6 Navistar was the engine. The engine technology comes out of Turkey and is already in production. Developement by Ford was done off shore to insure the secrecy of the project. I have to hand it to ya Bill Ford, you really stepped up to the plate on this one. This is a great engine and should put Ford back in the drivers seat in the light truck arena. For most buyers of this new engine, you won't know the difference going from gas to diesel- this engine is that flawless and that good. Now, with any luck at all they will build a decent tranny to go with it.
I know that the 6.2 is all new but will use elements of the modular engine such as 3 and 4 valve heads. But there has been tremendous work on direct injection gas engines.
The little 1.2 and 1.4 l Fords in Brazil as well as Europe are direct injected into the cylinder. Also the new Mazda 6 2.3 turbo is direct injected. So FORD has experince.
Another note, FORD exchanged their Direct injection technology with Toyota for their hybrid technology. Toyota wanted rights to use several FORD patents.
I expect this engine to be direct cylinder injected and for Toyota to come out with one as well.
Did anyone READ that post? The release said the union is negotiating with Ford to keep Cleveland Casting open and to move the production of those engines there. NOTHING is "cast" in stone. So until it comes out of Bill Ford's mouth, it still is pure speculation.
Sorry Ray the engines are going to be built, just not sure yet at Cleveland. Cleveland is in the hunt with two other facilities. I hope Cleveland gets the work for my 2 cents.
ALRIGHT!!!! I was hoping that Ford would get that 6.2L out there! The 4.4L Diesel in an F-150!!?! YEEHAW!!! Man, I wonder if the hp ratings are actually over 300 for that F-150. Wonder what the ratings are on the 6.2L as well. Most likely be a VVT I suspect. I hope Ford offers manual 6.2L for sale in the F-150's.
You have to wonder what the hp will be on the 6.2 though, they won't make it more than the v10, will they? Does this mean the v10 is going to get vvt to increase the hp difference?
