Next week will be my last week in Iraq. I'm finaly going home. It's been a looooooong year but well worth it I think. We've been able to do a lot of good things for the people of Iraq. My unit and I have made some great friends over here (locals, brothers in arms, and civilian contractors) that we will miss, but glad to be going home none the less. Our replacements are trained up and ready to take over. They are a great bunch of guys and we will be honored to hand the torch off to them.
I'd like to thank all of yall who sent me messages and responded to my posts over the past year with all your words of encouragement, support, and prayers. We (thank God) are bringing every Soldier home that we came here with.
It's been a wild and crazy tour. A lot of experiances, facts of life, and friends that I will never forget. I know that what we did here has helped Iraq and it's people, I just hope it was enough to keep the fight off our soil and to keep my nephew and his generation out of the fight.
I plan on relaxing a bit when we get back home then volunteering for another tour despite the pay cut I took compared to my civilian job (I'm in the Army Reserves). The way I figure it is I've already been here and have the experiance, no sence in somebody 'fresh' coming over and geting their head all screwed up if I can take their place.
Well anyways, yall have been extreamly supportive of me and my brothers/sisters on this site for our efforts and I felt compeled to share the good news with yall.
Hope yall have a great weekend. See ya back in the States.
In your Biography you write: "I'm a Soldier, that's about it." Sir... You are a hero to me and my family. Thank you so much for what you are doing and did for our country. If anywhere near my part of Texas...I'll buy you a cold one. (Honest)
God speed returning home, thanks for your service to our FREE country, what you do is why we are FREE.
P.S. if you can read this thank a teacher, If you enjoy your freedom to read this thank a Vet or a Soldier
Congrats 13MWZ, all y'alls good work there is helping the majority of Iraqis, and it is good to hear it from the horses' mouth. We have to 'dig' for that good news here.
Stay safe, have a smooth 30 hour flight back, and i know you're hating to climb into the Ford and just drive around awhile
Thanks for your service. And your willingness to turn around and go back because you've got the experience - even though it means a continued cut in pay - speaks volumes about the selfless sacrifices you (in particular) and all the other members of our Volunteer Armed Services are willing to make for our safety and our continued freedoms. "Thanks" is not a big enough word for what we owe you all. But it's the best we can do. Thanks again.
i would like to send a thanks from canada. many people up here believe in what you are doing b y fitting this war, mabye after monday we will have a real leader up here that will do what needs to be done reather than make up reasons not to do the job.
and to all those people how are smug about canada not being in the war i heard on the news today that bin ludan is asking for a truce, that would have never happened if brave people did not go and meet these cowards on thier home turf.
