If you build it yourself you have the opportunity of inspecting each individual part before installing. You know exactly what you've got when it's done. People have a tendency of going the extra mile when working on their own stuff.

Well i know the parts stores have a different company make the engines so if what they say in the pamphlet is true it doesnt sound to bad to me.

I have had this same problem with my ford truck since 75,000 miles. I am now replacing the engine, it has 106,000 on it. I checked the Northern Midwest region and found nothing out there with better than $1200.00. I talked to a machine shop and found that I can have my engine completely redone with a mild rv cam to enhance my engines performance between 1500 to 4500 rpms. The total cost when complete will be $1000.00 and 1 year warrenty. If you are still looking check out a couple of machine shops, and if you don't want to do the R & R they might be able to recommend someone to do the job for you.

Last I heard Ol' Lew bought that reconditioned engine which subsequently went south on him. Embittered by his experience he moved to Tijuana and is currently driving a chevy vega.
