Touch-up paint

I had my truck hood repainted after the roofer dropped a hammer on it. The painter gave me a pint of left over paint for touch ups here and there. Question: For scratches that you can see the metal, should a small amount of primer be touched up first or just touch it up with a couple coats of paint? How about spots where the scratch or ding is only to the primer?

For metal contact, I'd use some kind of metal prep first. If you have no metal contact, just keep coating it until it taller that the surounding area then 1500~2000 wet sand even and buff it out.
