I'm looking into getting a new set of wheels for my 02 4x4 Excursion. It has the factory 7x16" wheels which in my opinion are too small. I will never understand why the "Detroit big three" put such tiny wheels on their big trucks. Ok, originally I wanted a set of 16x8 Mikey Thompson Classic IIs with a set of GY Wrangler 285s. I even talked my local Discount Tire into ordering me a single MT Classic II for a trial fit. The MK Classic II has a positive offset (140 mm if I remember correctly) which pushed the tire out just far enough to rub when steering was at full tilt. This is esp. a problem with me because I often turn the wheels to their extreme and also do a good bit of towing with a load equalizing setup which transfers weight to the front axle. This pushes the front end down an inch or so making the rubbing even worse. So, what I would like is some suggestions from you experts that have upgraded wheels, what you have done and maybe even pictures if you have them. Obviously, I still like the MT Classics but they don't make any for the 8 lug pattern with no offset. I basically want something that will give me an additional inch in height and an additional inch in width with very little to no rubbing. Thanks.
i just put a new set on my 01 limited 4x4 v10. they are STRUCTURE S50 8 lug. they are 22x 9.5 with a 10mm offset. tires are 305/45/22. the tires are 12" wide and almost 33"tall. they fit with no lift or any suspension mods at all.
I have yet to find where MT makes a different offset from what I mentioned above. If anybody knows differently let me know and I'll order them tomorrow!
