Welcome aboard; you have join into the worlds best site for FORD Trucks, There's numerous resources within this web site at your disposal, check out the read first section and also try a search for past threads by using the search buttom "highlighted in blue" above this thread for past subject dealing with your question; but the block is suppose to be black, and the valve covers are the only part gold, the oil bath breather is also black. The paint code for engine colors? good question!
I'm sure someone alot smart than I will reply shortly.

I wont say I'm smarter than the next guy but here is my story about engine paint. I bought my '65 F250 in 1977 with 70K original miles. The valve covers had never been off of it. The entire engine from the intake manifold to the pan including the valve covers were and are gold. I have the paint code somewhere and will post soon. Steve

So my 65 has a blue manifold with the standard iron beneath. The valve covers are blue but there is a fair amount of gold/brass look underneath the paint. I have sen others on this site describe thier valve covers as you do but I seem to remember that they may have had the paint removed/worn off. My oil breather /filler cap is gold under the blue.

Everyone I ever talk to about a black block states the reason back then was to help keep them cooler, even recently I've been told bowties are going back to a black block?
My engine builder (TRUE FORD DIEHARD) freak out when I told him to paint my 302 block black. (Thinks only good color is FORD blue). I believe whatever you do it will only have to satisfied you. All photo's from early 60's brochures I have seen and currently have show black block, gold valve cover and black oil bath breather. Even my die cast replic 65 truck model is painted this way. Again others alot smarter than I know more. Just trying to help.
