Perhaps a bit of a reach, but I really didn't want to drill holes, anywhere in the panel,
and as far as using the cubby, well, I'm using that to hold the mount for my wireless
rear-view camera monitor (1 camera is mounted at the back of my 5th wheel, with
a 2nd camera in the truck bumper).
Great install. I am always amazed at the ingenuity people use to meet their needs and this forum is a great way to share it. Thanks for posting your pics.
Heck, that screen is bigger than the one my kids watch their DVD's on... and you use it just to watch for tailgaters and when backing up!!!
I have a shelf-it in my truck. Personally, I like it. I keep my CD case, a pair of golves and other small stuff in it. I will however say that it does hang down a bit below the top of the glass. Some people who drive my truck don't like that. I don't even see it. I am 6'1" and it works fine for me.
Bill,
Do you have any pics? If so, I'd like to see them.I don't mind modifying and swapping parts, heck my FJ40 Land Cruiser has Toyota, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, International, and Suzuki parts in it.

I will see if I can get some. When the wife and I split, she got the digital camera. I will borrow one from a friend and snap some.
On EDIT. I just remembered, I do have a pic that is a head on view where you can see the shelf-it. I just added it to my gallery. You can see the drivers side visor sits up a little more than the passenger side visor. I had installed one of the visor clips on the drivers side only at that point.

Bill,
I looked through your gallery, believe it or not my truck is the Crew Cab 2wd version of yours. Same colors, same running boards, etc. The Shelf-it does hang down a bit low, lower than I anticipated. Anyhow, thanks again for the help...
Bill, is there any chance you could give me some measurements on your shelf it? Specifically how far down from the headliner it hangs, and how far back from the windshield? I would like to put one of these in my truck, but after looking at yours I'm not sure I want that much space taken up, or the back edge that close to my head.

I can do that.
I will say from memory right now, with the mirror in the stock location the bottom of the shelf-it is about 1 to 3/4 inch above the top of the rear view mirror. You can't see the shelf-it in the mirror at all.
I will get a tape out at lunch and post the results.
Well that answers the question of if I could use the shelf it along with one of the above the mirror gauge pods. hmmm... I wonder what it would take to make my own....

Well, it was a long lunch but here is the tale of the tape:
7 1/2 inches from the front of the headliner at the center of the windshield to the the back of the shelf-it.
5/8 inch from the top of the rearview mirror to the bottom of the shelf-it.
10" from the top of the steering wheel (with the wheel tilted all the way down) to the bottom of the shelf-it
2 1/4 from the bottom of the forward most part of the shelf-it straight up to the headliner
If you install the visors, as I did, you will loose a little. I think at 6'1", I don't need the visors since the shelf-it is low enough to block the sun if I crane my neck a little.

Matt
For the cost vs finished product, I would say just buy the shelf-it, they do look nice.
Hope this helped.
