engine year ?

I purchased a 70 F250 sport custom. You have a great web site.Reviewing the past postings I found information and checked my truck. Turns out I have a 70 frame from a F100 and a 72 F250 body. I believe I have a 360 in it. I know I have a c-6 trans, replaced it. Can anyone help me if find out what year the engine is?

There is a way to ascertain with some degree of certainty whether an engine assembly is correctly "dated" and as such whether it *may* be the original assembly. It is not an exact science and involves some judgment because you have to compare all of the date codes from the engine parts and make some assumptions as to whether the engine assembly's date coincides with the production date for the truck. The parts which you should examine are the block, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds. Some of these parts are easily exchanged, of course. Date codes are a series of 4 characters starting with a number (ie, "7D12" April 12, 1967). The date code on the block should be found directly below the oil filter housing, just above the pan lip.

engine year ?

Stan, I can't write as purttey as Thom, :-) but am wondering how you came to your conclusion. I was at his house earlier this year and he found that my truck has a 250 id tag on the door and the title matches that number, but it is a F100 truck.

We both agree that after 30 years a lot of parts can be changed due to wrecks, rust, etc.

Hi John,
I found the vin # stamped in the frame and used a site in the tec part of FTE. The information that came back said it was an 70 F100. The vin # on the door came back with 72 F250. Then I checked the pictures and found the front end shot of the grill, it matched mine. I do not know what year the motor is and I am planning on do some work to the motor. I do not know how many parts are interchangeable with differant years. I am new to this. I like the older trucks.
Stan

Stan I suspect that you have a 70 engine in your truck. It could have been wrecked and a newer door was used. Which vin matches your title?
