The only difference (if the is any) would be in the input spines to Tcase.
Yes, the spines are different. You cannot use a Chevy t-case behind a Ford tranny without special adapters. You'll also have the front yoke on the passenger's side instead of driver's side so if you have a Ford front axle it won't work, you would need a Chevy or Dodge axle with the passenger's side pumpkin.
is there an adapter made to make that conversion? i already have the front axle i need. i asked about the transfer case b/ i can buy it cheap and b/c i already have the front axle (dana 44) from the chevy. that was my plan "B" the first idea was to take apart the axle and switch the tubes around so that the pumkin would be on the driver side but so far no one has said that i can do that...so i dont know if it can be switched around ar not??? thanks for your advise!!!
You can do that to the axle but believe me when I tell you: You don't want to. Pulling and turning the C's is a job in itself, let alone pulling tubes and swapping them. Besides that I think it will require custom length axle shafts, you can't just swap them from one side to the other because of the carrier offset. So I guess what I'm getting at is you'll have hundreds of $$ more and a LOT of work into it just to swap the pumpkin to the driver's side. You could buy a Ford axle (even a D60) and just be done with it.
Go to www.advanceadapters.com and browse around there for the Ford to Chevy adapters. If you don't see them then e-mail those guys, they can custom make anything you want. You'll also have to see if the adapter will still allow you enough room to bolt it all together or if you'll need a longer, custom adapter to bolt the t-case to the tranny.
In my opinion this is going to get very expensive and be a lot of hassle. I honestly think you could sell that axle and buy a Ford replacement with the money. Then keep an eye out for a Ford NP205. If you're set on using that Chevy axle throw a 2wd tailshaft housing on your transmission and get a divorced Chevy NP205. Then you won't have to worry about the nightmare of custom adapters.
ok thanks...and yes i already have a big headache from this project! i am putting a diesel from a tractor into a 94 f250 and i am having a few problems w/ that. mainly is the clutch and i need a conversion plate that bolts to the back of the block so that i can bolt up my tranny. i already have a ZF but the truck was my dads and he says he wouldnt trust the tranny w/ the torque from the diesel b/c he thinks the tranny already has problems, and i wanted a 5 speed w/ an external slave cylinder but the only ones are the ZF that have the larger bellhousing size. whic seem hard to find
the reason about the axle swap is b/c my truck has the dana 50 IFS front end and i have to do away w/ that b/c of the much extra weight and because i have to cut out the crossmember that holds the front end on to make a new lower one so the oil pan will fit in the frame rails.
so i agree w/ you. i think i will call a few junk yards and see if i can trade both the front and rear axles from the chevy for a dana 60 front for a ford...what do you think the two chevy axles are worth? enough for an even or almost even trade? i only paid $150 for both axles
