This morning after taking my baby out for a drive, came home and was letting her cool down, and heard this click click click sound. Popped the hood, and it seems to be coming from the front drivers side of the engine. Its a very distinct click. I just switched to synthetic oil, and was wondering if this was an injector click. Are fords injectors known to start to click on the way out? My truck has about 130k miles on it. Ive never heard this clicking sound, and possibly it was two different clicks, i.e. two different sources of the exact same sound. I did notice however that in the mornings now, my baby smokes more blueish smoke than it did with dino oil. That seems to point to injector o rings, correct?
More bluish smoke when cold could also be a coincidental glow plug failure.
Clicking like that is a tough one to nail down without hearing it myself. To top it off, a failing injector will often sound like a mechanical problem.
Probably the best way to diagnose the problem is to disable the injectors one by one and see what happens. If the click goes away, you've found your bad injector. If it never goes away, then you can be certain of a lifter problem or something like that.
my click click has now gone to squeal squeal. Sounds to me the idler pully on the serpentine belt at the top of the engine is on its way to permanent vacation. I saw a thread once about pulleys, but I cant find it. Can any of you send me a link or a good source besides the stealership to get a new pully, etc.
I also had a clicking in the front of my motor, i was sure it was an injector. It turned out to be an exhuast leak in the ebpv tube. tiny pin holes in the ebpv tube were leaking. and another funny thing is that i could only hear it on the drivers side, BUT, the tube sits on the pass. side of motor. To test pull off spray some parts cleaner into tube (Something that will bubble out of pin hole leakages. Plug one end of tube with your finger and compress the other end with air hose. I couldnt identify the leaks on the tube until i did this. I bought a new tube 40.00 bucks at ford. This cured my clicking, restored performance = Big time! tube was clogged and leaking so bad the sensor never got the pressure reading it was supposed to be getting thus the ebpv was always closing and staying closed and im very sure the motor was de-fueling becuase the sensor wasnt getting any reading. Dont have a scanner but put two and two together to cure my lack of power. (from youre guys posts) I just got back from iraq , my wife has put thirty thousand miles on the truck this past year and she needs alot of TLC, so i will be bugging you guys for some help . Thanx
I forgot to mention this also cured my "no pedal", "sissing sound", "no boost", "low mpg" "wandering idle" and did i mention that "sissing sound that i hear every where i go, in my head now" gosh, im glad i fixed that!
