I just installed the HPX SS line Tuesday and while driving around I started hearing a hissing sound while cruising @ 50 mph. I've never heard this before, when I let up off the accel. pedal it stops hissing and when I get back in it to maintain the 50 mph cruising speed it starts back up after the speed has leveled off.
All my boots look pretty clean except the one on the driverside at the IC and its dirty as hell.
I remember seeing a deal you can buy where you hook up the air compressor to the intake system to check for leaks, where did I see this or who has instructions to build my own?

Thanks.
That's normal EBPV closining to help warm the engine when it's cold.
Nut
is it normal for the EBPV to close while the engine is at operating temp?
Mine will close on real cold days even after she's "warmed" up. It opens and closes to maintain optimal running temp. Since i put on the cold front it opens after warm up and stays that way no matter how cold.

Sorry PSNut, I disagree. SprintRacer you have a boost leak, most likely it's one of the clamps for the orange boots. They are easily misplaced by the boost pressure if you don't get them perfectly positioned and clamped down tight. Personal experience.

WOW Kwik... a boost leak sounds like the EBPV closing?
How about the boot near the IC that's real greasy? Any oil leaks at that spot?
If u haven't done the CCV mod then there should be oil around the boot leak.
Do u concur Kwik?

oil around the boots shows boost leak, crud, mine are all dirty. I havent done the ccv mod yet though. Ugh, either these stock boots are not very good, or its normal for a little bit of oil to gradually seep out making them dirty, which is it?
What makes me most suspicious of a new boost leak is the statement that it's a new problem after doing the HX install. When I did mine, life was a lot easier to remove the Y-pipe and gain a lot of access. I drove the truck for several days and then all of a sudden one of the clamps let go and BOOM.............sssssssssssssssssss whenever I stepped on the accellorator. I had to go back and redo all the clamps, very carefully this time and then they held, even up to 30 PSI. It was one of the orange boot clamps being pushed up and off of the boot by the pressure.
I conced that it may be the EBPV, but I think that he would have known of that sound before he did the job. An HX hose won't change that in any way.
I've been wrong, many times before, LOL. I still think it's boost leak.
dang ford, one of the airplanes I fly has a maximum boost of 39.5 lbs, never blow a hose off on it. But that would definitly suck blowing one at 18k feet, haha. maybe i should install the airplane boots on my truck, haha.

Do the CCV mod and clean up all your boots/pipes....u won't regret it.

its in the works. Besides that point of the ccv vent mod, what else is an advantage. Do these things have the intercoolers plug with oil and end up with low boost?

Don't think your going to get any plugging. The removal of the crankcase "puke"
from the incoming stream of air may lower charge temps and improve total clean dry air to intake.

Look in my gallery. There's a picture of the one I built for that purpose in there. All hardware store stuff.
Cookie, what is the black thing you used? Do you think you could give me a break down on the parts list? Also, where do you install this contraption to test for leaks?
