I have a 98 150 SWB that is'nt rated to tow my 7500# travel trailer.
I have $20k to spend.
Should I get a 2004 F150 with 5.4 / 3.55 gears rated for 8600#.....or
Should I get a 2001-2002 F250 5.4 or 6.8.
I pull the camper 60 miles once a month and I will drive the truck 30 miles back and forth to work everyday . My concerns with the F250 is primarily gas mileage.. My concern with the F150 is I think they might be over-rating them as far as their towing and its effects on the future of the drivetrain.
Definetly the F250. I should get my new one at the end of this month. The research I did shows that if you want the truck to last, bigger is better. The mileage is not much different.
Thanks so much for the replys
I want to make a decision that I won't regret.
Can anyone tell me what to expect for gas MPG not towing and driving conservitivly (sp) with the 5.4 and 6.8
Man I would consider trading your 98 F150 or a 2001-2003 F250 with the 7.3L. My friend at work has a 1996 with 7.3 and 160k miles. Runs like new. He pulls a 24' race car trailer that I'm sure is 7500# or more and tells me he gets 16mpg towing and 18 not towing. Not sure I believe him but...
I have an F250 FX4 crew cab. My lie-o-meter shows 21+mpg at 65mph on the interstate. If I slow to 60mph it goes to 24mpg. Short trips around town and to/from work 2 miles I only get 14mpg. You said you drive 30 miles one way so I think the diesel would be a good option.
