Dually tires?

I just converted my F250 to a dually. I put a one ton rearend with the heavier springs and all in. Previously I had 285-75-16's. The dually wheels have 235-85-16's but need to be replaced. One tire shop locally has reccomended staying with the same size. I do get in some nasty stuff so I want the widest I can go without the tires touching each other. I feel as if I can easily go to a 245-75-16 but would like to put a 255-75-16 if it will fit. Anybody know or done it before?

You are limited to rim width you can't fit much on 16x6 wheels so your pretty much stuck with 235/85R-16 you can try squeeze 255/85R16s onto the wheels but you are pushing it. You really don't want wide tires on a dually you want pizza cutters for any traction in mud or in dirt. When you have a big wide tire there is no traction as the contact pressure is pretty nil.

Thanks. I was kinda looking at it both ways. MOST of the time I be unloaded so cutting down shouldn't be that much of a problem. I will occasionaly have to pull a 18' GN with 7500 of tractor behind it sometimes too though. Most of my "nasty" stuff consists of surface mud not over 5-6 deep (which cookie cutters would work great for) and then sugar sand which has no bottom.
