I had my brother pick me up some coolant for my PSD from the dealer. I told him to get the factory green stuff with some Diesel Cooling System Additive OR some of the gold coolant. He brought me "Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant" AND the Diesel Cooling System Additive.
He said the counter guy thought I would need both.
you will get different opinions on this. some say the gold stuff is fine as long as you flush out all the green coolant also with the gold you do not put in the coolant additives.
Yep - you don't need the additives with the GOLD coolant, but DON'T mix it with the green coolant either! Just make sure you do a good cleanout flush and get all the green stuff out, and you'll be good to go!!
O and YES - the gold stuff is safe for the PSD - that's what my '02 came with from the factory - and I THINK the manual says that it is good for 5 years, or 100,000 miles, if memory serves me correctly....
I have another question, I read that these motors have 32.75 qt's coolant capacity. So after I completly flush out all the old green stuff and do a final drain, I can just add 16.5 qt's of new antifreeze and then top off with distilled water right?
OK, the more I read this board the more I don't know. What are the aditives needed for a diesel enigine and what do they do? I had my coolant system flushed at a SpeeDee oil place so I don't know if they put in any additives or not.

I'm sure they didn't put any in. I tried to post a link here several times on some good info on what cavitation is and what it does to the psd but wasn't allowed. Might try looking up cavitation on google.
OK, but what are the additives that I need to add? I assume that I should be able to get them fairly easily.
Well, I did a search and read up on it. What I found is that I should get my coolant flushed again anyway as it has been almost 50k miles. So I will just get it done at the stealership. They should do ti right, right??
