Mech fuel injection UPDATE!

Well, I got the word down from Kinsler

Not good
I got the estimate to get it all up to snuff and ready to roll........

$4034.90 Say WHAT!!!!!!!!!

It went from a nice piece, usable to JUNK and needs everything and gold plating . I think they just figure that if they are going to do the work then they are going to make sure there are no issues with it at all. So, they just want to totally rebuild the intake(shafts, bushing, oversize throttle plates, billet this, custom that) and that way I can't complain that it doesn't work right afterwards. That's fine, I guess, but it basically makes it a long term project.............real long term. I'll be gathering up the fuel parts and maybe a few years from now I'll bolt it on and see if I can make it work without all the rebuilding. They're playing safe/not sorry and I can't afford that so I'll try it myself.

Oh well.......it was a nice dream

Well that sucks! Geeze sorry to hear the rebuild price is so dang expensive.Well hopefully in time you can get it all sorted. That's a really cool injection setup. I've been looking at weber setups from weber direct. $3300 complete and not bad compared to $4500+ from Inglese. Still expensive tho....

Ya, even the guy at Kinsler told me he recalculated it a couple times cause it seems wrong! NOT!

I think I'll work on collecting bits/pieces along the way and sometime bolt it on, without reworking the throttle shafts. He told me it would not run right, with each cylinder's EGT being slightly different because of the air bleed problem. It makes sense, but come on...how screwed up can a regular manifold be compared to this? Granted you are working with each cylinder directly, but I can't see it being that far off with the condition its in. Heck...it only has to work at idle and WOT!! Not like it's a street car and using the whole spectrum. He told me that these problems affect it's total use and will not affect power.

They know how it all works, so I don't want to doubt there recommendations. Maybe it won't work? Someday I'll find(or it might be sold too?)

Is there any way you can rebush the throttle shafts yourself? I don't doubt that Kinsler is misleading you but dang that's a lot of cash to rework it. Maybe Mark Artis from the Texas Outsiders can help you. He know's a bit about these as I remember. I remember him looking for a setup a while back. Just a thought. Anyway good luck with it. I'd keep it and slowly bring it back as time and money permit.

The big part is drilling the whole 20+", then bushing iT and then reaming it to size. I work at a machine shop, so the equipment is here, persay, but doing it would be quite an undertaking. Doing it all when the equipment is free means alot of evening/weekend time as I can do gov't work, but I won't tear a set up down.

I did a tour of their shop when I dropped it off and it makes it simple when you have ALL the jigs to do this type of work. For me it would be a tooling nightmare . Is it worth paying them $800 big ones? Probably. Can I afford to pay them $800 big ones...NOT!!

Guess I have plenty of time to mull it over

Or you could of had that cammer motor thats back up on ebay with injection for "buy it now" $35K. I would bead blast your injection and make a house trophy until you attack it later.
