If you are not under warranty, and do not want to buy the new weather stripping, try this. Mark where the hinge and door meet before you loosen the bolts. Loosen the bolts on the top door hinge, then barely loosen the bottom hinge bolts (just enough that the bolts will turn, but still be slightly snug).
Have the door open, stand inside the door and pull the top of the door toward you, snug up one bolt and check for fit and ease of closing. If everything looks and closes good, tighten all bolts and move on to the next door.
You can take a torx bit and loosen and move the strike plate in on the door post. This will tighten the closing up.
I have put small felt self stick furniture glides on my door frames where the door rubber bumpers meet the frame. This and the adjustment tightened up the doors so that I have no squeeks and rattles any more.
Note: If you have a rattle from the rear doors when you shut the front doors, or when going over rough pavement, pull up the weatherstrip where the small non-moveable window in the rear side door meets the door frame. There are two white plastic clips that hold the window in place. These things rattle.
Take some black silicone and pry the clips open slightly and fill in and around both sides (inside and out) of the clips, and a few incher above and below the clips. Wipe off any excess that may squeeze out when you put the rubber back in place. Push in and out on the small window and you will see how loose it is from the factory.
This post is timely. Mine is a 2003 Navi built in late 2002 and the door rattles have been driving me nuts. I have just collected the truck from the dealer and they have replaced all the door seals and latches with the modified design as per the TSB. However, it is still rattling over very rough road. It sounds as if it is coming from inside the doors but I can tell exactly. Next step will be to remove the door panels and see if I find anything loose.I will try the other recommendations in this post
I certainly don't want to steal the thread, but my front two doors knock while on the highway. They don't rattle, even over rough pavement because I had all the TSBs done, but now the front two have a persistent knock that occurs with the very slightest, AND I MEAN SLIGHTEST, road imperfection. If I hit a bump, no rattle, but crusing on a straight smooth highway, they knock when for example, I exit a bridge, you know how there's the slight dip. Any thoughts?
are you positive the knock is the doors. Can you feel the door move in the frame. Could be something else close to the door such as the running boards. Just a thought.
My rattle sounds like something is loose. I think it might be the rod connecting the interior door handle to the lock.
Yea I'm pretty positive it's the door because after driving a while, if I prop and put my weight on the armrest, I hear the door knock, the same noise it makes on the highway w/ subtle grade changes.
you said you had the TSB's done. There are two I know of the one for the door cladding and the other for a rubbing / ticking sound from the doors. Have you had both of these done?
My cladding is fine; I only needed one of those pieces replaced and that was done a while back. I also had the latches and weatherstripping replaced on all four doors per the said TSB.
I have an 03 Expy that has the exact same problem on the passenger side front and rear doors. How do I find out about the TSB's for this model/yr and whether it is under warrenty.
I think the door cladding has two TSB. Mine knocked/flapped while going down the road. TSB covered new double sided tape to keep from flapping. They also have the color fading TSB. Traded her in before the fading was fixed, although it was faded.
How do I find out about the TSB's on the 03 Expy?
How do I find out if its under warrenty; I just bought the vehicle from the gov't, do you think the warrenty transfers?
just fixed this problem on mine yesterday on mine it was the window came off the track I would have never thought that would have been the problem because every thing worked fine(window going up and down sealing out rain and air)
