I have a '99 and my compass/temp display no longer works in my overhead console. I remember hearing that there is a soldered connection on them that is common for failing. Wondering if anyone has any input? I hate to buy new because they run $400.
Thanks!
my brother in law had the same problem...the dealer said they had to sell him the WHOLE console....he took it apart and found the problem and repaired it himself, for basically.....free . I cannot remember exactly what he had to do, but he said it was very basic...good luck, scott
From what I have heard about the console, the soldering job on the wiring is sub-standard and is a common problem with them going out. With what scottma978 mentioned, it is possible to repair yourself if in fact some of the wires have come loose. Would be worth looking into and save yourself some money.
I used Miescha post on the console and i fixed it for 10$ tok it to a tv repair do the soldering had them solder all of them just to make sureyou can find it in Miescha galley
I can vouch for the detailed step by step post with pics he has in his gallery. I was able to repair mine on my own using his instructions. It was very easy.
Thanks for the quick responses guys. I have taken it apart and just looking at the board I don't see anything bad, ie: broken wires, bad solders.
I'll see if I can find the steps you guys are talking about and repair it myself. I figured either do it myself or take it to a shop and have them do it, anything has gotta be cheaper than buying new.
Let me know if you have any problems with the instructions in my gallery. There is also a post floating around that gives the details with linked photos if you prefer that route.
Thanks all for the nice comments - I'm happy to hear I've added a bit to the forums (I've taken a lot more ).
For those that don't know about it, there are small scales in the upper right-hand corner of each post. If you like the post (or hate it I guess) you can click the scales and leave a positive (negative) point for the poster. I just found this and I've added it for quite a few of the posts that really helped me. No one seems to know about it, so I figured I would spread the word.
