Oh, you mean like my 100W Sylvania H3 bulbs in them offroad lights that came with 55W junkers? In my experience heat damage to the housing is not an issue if there are vent holes somewhere (usually on the bottom), but damage to the harness is definitely a clear and present danger...
One of my best friends use compact flourescents in everything and they see almost no difference on their power bill. You might if you leave all the lights on all the time. When you factor in how much those CFLs cost, there is no savings.
Thats comparing apples to oranges anyway. The compact flourescents don't get as hot or draw as much current as incandescant or halogen bulbs. We are talking about halogen bulbs and the principles of flourescent bulbs are irrelevant.
And Yes I do use 60 watt regular bulbs in most lights. Flouresecents give me a headache. I only like bright lights when I'm working on a project or something. I don't see the need for them the rest of the time.
Thats exactly what I was refering to As far as the overwattage headlight bulbs go, I have seen them melt lenses, housings, wires, connectors, switches etc. It really depends if the lenses are glass or plastic and how heavy the wiring is.
It does depend a lot on the light if they are the off road KC lights that came with 100 watt and then you bump to 150 watt, it works fine. If you have a little pair of fog lights that are 55 watt and then go to 100 watt it has a good chance of damageing the lamp. Besides that running overwattage bullbs on headlights and fog lights is illegal in most places. Although, I doubt it would be noticable on most applications.

Oh, it's noticeable alright, I've seen some high-power bulbs stuck in factory lenses and they do look a whole lot brighter - probably no brighter than some newer lights, but definitely brighter than factory. That's why I keep the 100W bulbs to the 4"x6" offroad overheads, for regular driving I find the factory lights plus a pair of small floods on the bottom of the bumper quite adequate.
Now this is thread mining at its finest i see!!!!!!!
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the factory light fitting and the euro light fitting?
I would like to track down some plugs for the bulbs as i am only using connectors atm!

I meant it probably won't be obvious to the authorities that you have done it. It is illegal, but you probably won't get pulled over for it. It will create added glare to other drivers though, but may not be that much more.

What do you mean by the euro light fitting? Are you talking about the connector for the bulb?
Alright, thanks. Have you ever done it? My headlights are perfectly clear, but my tail lights kinda look like crap. Come spring, I'm buying cleaning stuff such as that and a clay bar kit and Mother's Back to Black. Any recommendations?

hey man whats the deal with ur headlights where did you get them? and do you have pics?
Does anyone know if the headlight restoration kits would work on tail lights?
Sure does. I just got the headlight restoration kit from Eastwood Company. The right headlight was yellowed bad. It made it clearer, but not like the new headlight assembly on the left. My truck had just been recently repainted and had some overspray on the tail lights / tailgate. I used the kit to clean up the tail light and turn signal lenses. I think they made a difference on the back up light lenses.
METAL POLISH? My headlights are plastic. I've had good luck with A rubbing wheel and some compound. If really bad you could wet sand a bit with some 1500 grit wet/dry paper. Did it on a few cars and they came out nearly factory new. Some detail shop will even polish them out for 20-30 bucks around here in Michigan.
