Hey everyone! I have a question that may be hard to answer. I have a 1982 F-150 that my dad bought new, he was 52 years old then. After he retired and was mostly driving to the golf course and back, Mom ;-( talked him into getting an economical vehicle (cringe) and get rid of his old gas guzzler. Well, when I bought it from him it had around 80,000 I think, and I was using it for a work truck. Last year I completely overhauled the motor, everything new but the air conditioned compressor, and had the tranny rebuilt. It has been bored .040 over, holley dominator intake, edelbrock carb, high volume oil pump, headers, dual exhaust, etc. Just for show, not for racing, I'm near 50 yrs. myself. Excellant running condition. When Dad orderedd the truck, he had it completely under-coated and it has only one place, drivers side rear fender, that has rust. Never wrecked, dash has damage from sun, paint in good condition, short wheel base, chrome wheels, chrome toolbox, chrome bed rails. Turn signals have to be canceled manually.
Had two gas tanks but thr front was rusty so I removed it - now just rear tank. Now I need to sell this truck, and am wondering what price range would be reasonable. I live near Paducah, KY if geography plays a part. The Kelley Blue Book prices don't reflect reasonable prices, just insurance values. Thanks for any comments.
Sounds to me like you put a fair amout of money in the truck.......I'm not sure if you'll get all the money you spent out of the truck when you sell it but why not try? I don't know how fast you need to sell it, but if I didn't have to have the money I'd price it high and see if it sells. This also gives you room to move as a lot of people expect to dicker on the price......on an old truck, it's hard to put a dollar value on it........you need to figure out what you have to have.......then what you'ld like to get..........ask what you'ld like to get but be prepaired to drop the price to what you have to have........
You may be better off to remove the performance parts and sell them individually......as they probably won't add much value to the truck.........As for me, I'd personally prefer a truck that is stock and complete as it came from the factory.
To answer your question, I think I could by a similar truck here in TN, without the performance stuff for $2500 or less......
My guess would be $2500.00 or less as well. No doubt you have a nice truck there, but I have found that performance upgrades really don't help get the price up as much as the sum of the add ons.
Even with a fresh motor and tranny, but no a/c, interior damage and minor rust for ealry 80's I would only expect to get around $2,000 around where I live. But I live Arizona so there still pretty plentiful. You might get more if your back east where it's harder to find good old pick ups.
id have to say between 2 and 2500 for it but id start asking higher do weigh your options on selling the parts seperately though it might pan out in your favor
