I need to know what frame is better to rebuild my 4x4 on, i've got a 77 f250 4x4 that has a frame slightly different than my 74 f250 highboy, which one is a better/stronger frame?
thanks,
my 77 has a power steering box, my 74 has manual steering, with a few cut and welds i can put the 77 power steering box on my 74 frame, but if my 77 frame is a stronger/better frame then i will leave it the way it is and start building. i just don't want to rip apart my daily driver (74highboy) if i don't have to. both the frames look slightly different but i don't know unless i strip both trucks down to the frames and compare them side by side, i was hoping someone has done this already and knows which frame is better to use.
thanks in advance,
-sunnyb.
The 77 non-highboy frame actully is rated for a heavier load from the factory. On the other hand if its rusted to pieces that doesnt matter. If its in good shape keep it. It will be just fine and plenty durable plus its already set up for the power steering gear box. Its also got 3" wide leaf springs in the rear vrs. 2 1/2" on the highboy and the frame is wider on the non-highboy which makes it more stable.
