Well...here I am getting ready to order my first truck. Thank goodness for this site.
My goal is to have ranchhand's front bumper with the warn winch attached to my future F350. Which options should I consider to help with the extra weight of the bumper and winch? Is the heavy duty alternator better than the dual alternator for the winch application?
Ranchhand is a good bumper. I have had two very similar "deer gaurds" from 'texas truck parts.'(every bit as good as a ranch hand, but cheaper) These are best described as "replacement bumpers". I had difficulty finding these once i decided to put them on my trucks. I traveled to TX and saw deer gaurds there, where they were common. I'm in AZ and i was the first to put one on in my town and have started a trend. I've had one on each of my trucks in the last 6 years. I ordered my first one from the factory in TX and waited 6 weeks, the second one i drove to prescott, az and bought it off the showroom floor ($ 980.00) . the first one was a winch mount type with room for any size winch behind the protection of the bumper, the second was a reciever hitch type that i think is better, i can run a plow, a winch, use the reciever as a lift point to jack the truck up. i have pix in my gallery. I like the extra security and protection by the big bumpers, get one soon before they'er banned for being dangerous to other cars.
I had a Ranchhand on my last truck and loved it. It is very heavy, however, and therefore if you plan on keeping it on the truck for the long haul I would order your truck with the heavy service suspension which beefs up the front springs one rating higher than what would otherwise come standard. Literally, with my last truck when I put the ranchhand on, the nose dropped noticably. Great replacement bumper!
Thanks guys for the feed back. Heavier springs and a receiver sounds like the right way to go. This all came about when my family and I were on the I-15 outside ceder city Utah and we t -boned a deer doing about 75mph. This was in my wife's SUV and she was driving. She basically saved us by keeping the wheels straight. The front end was a different story.
