I have had this truck about 6 wks. So far I have all the wiring problems fixed (I actualy have working lights and turn signals). I bought another 64 step side for parts. I pulled out the old 223 due to a frozen piston. Got the 223 out of the parts truck and after playing with it all weekend (had to try both starters, both fuel pumps, rebuilt the distrubutor) she started. Been 12 years since I've heard that sweet sound from this truck. Have some gasket work to do on the fuel pump and I'll drop the oil pan and clean it out, drain the gas tank, and flush out the radiator and give her some new fluids.
Now the only thing keeping her off the road is putting the trans in and giving her the ability to stop, lol.
I can't express my excitement with this project, but I'm sure you guys know what I'm feeling.
put in new valve seals. It's not a big job. The old one get brittle
and break off an pulg the oil pump and you will spin the bearings.
Theres a tool that compress the spring so you can get the keepers out.
Plus you will need compressed air to hold the valve up while you change them.
Bring the piston to top dead center so if you lose compesstion it will not fall in
to the engine.
This is on my to do list with my 64. Im just finishing up the valve seal job on
my 78 Thunderbird. Bruland
I started to put the front clip back on mine this weekend. Put the cab back on a couple of months ago. I still need to rebuild tranny, finish brake lines to the rear and install everything in the cab. Then Im done, no wait, yes I'm done, no who am I trying to fool, I will never be done. There is always something else.
