When I go to start the truck I have to stand on the clutch in order to start the truck. It is a 90 F150. Is there a way to adjust the clutch or switch that makes it not start unless the clutch is pushed in?
The clutch interlock switch is non adjustable, it can be replaced on the clutch master cylinder pushrod just above the gas pedal. Also if you trust yourself I defeated the switch by removing it off the push rod and using a piece of ready-bolt cut to length to jam it open so now the truck will start with the clutch out.
Actually, you can adjust it, but it requires machining a new clutch pushrod, and welding on an eye to slip over the post on the clutch pedal assembly.
I did this in my truck, actually quite accidentally, while making a new clutch pushrod because mine snapped.
Towards the end, but somewhat in the middle, is a lip on the pushrod that actuates the switch. Move that lip closer to the firewall, the clutch switch engages earlier. Move it further away from the firewall, the clutch switch engages later.
