Does anyone know what the specificatios are for the 2003 "290-watt 6-Disc Prem Audio"

I pulled the front and rear door off to look at replacing the speakers. I found what looked to be fully enclosed (completely sealed plastic box) 5 inch seperates( 5inch woofer cone, 1 inch tweeter in a 6x8 plate) and on the back the what looked the plane jane 6x8 cheap *** factory woofer cones with no enlosure at all. The same ones I could find in my old 68 mustang. I have not even looked at the sub.

Not what I was expecting to find. Iwould have assumed the front and rear would be runnign simialr speaker packages.

Does the front and rear channels run the same signal, IE full frequency minus low end bass filtered out for the sub? Given the difference in the speaker styles, I wonder if they do not have it split between high's, mids and lows for the speaker system.

Your front enclosed speakers and your rears should run the same signal. Your tweeter just has a crossover capacitor on it to knock out the bass. As a test with your door panel off...put your hand over the tweeter and see if you hear highs coming from the woofer.

I really need to stop posting while taking Nyquil.
Is the rear speaker in the Premium Sound system supposed to be a cheap 6x8 woofer cone? It defies logic to me that they would use a decent speaker up front and such a bad one in the back.
Then again thwe whole system makes no sense. Visteon claims it is a 80 watt unit... 4 x 80 w or 80 w total?

4x80 with 50w sub?
4x 20 with 210 w sub?
Neither one makes sense given the response of the system ....My 89 mustang with 4x15w and a 100w bazooka tube is so much better!

Oh well. At least I know I can put the aftermarket of choice in it. I am considering the Infiniti Reference 5012i 5.25" up front for more highs and alpine 6x8 SPS-570A in the rear to fill in the Mid bass and highs in the back.
