I went to start truck the other day and it was dead, not even the remote would unlock the doors. Purchased a new battery and installed and worked fine for 2 days then went dead again. Took into repair shop and they said there is a short somewhere in the "courtesy light" somewhere. They are tearing my dash apart to trace the problem. Can anyone relate to the same problem.
Battery drain do to a short to ground can happen, the best way to find it is to put an amp meter inline at the battery and then pull fuses to determine the circuit.
Could be a number of things, like shorted diodes in the alternator, glove box, or under hood light not going off, or some accessory you've added like a CB radio that you've forgotten to turn off, ect.
So Kens, ammeter hookup & pull a fuse test should track it down.
If you had a buzzer that you could hook up in series with the battery cable, you could just listen, as you pull fuses, when it changes loudness, or stops buzzing, you've found a suspect circuit!!!
The shop should be able to test the alternator for bad diodes.
