Hey, need some help. I've got an 86 Eddie Bauer edition, 2.9, Auto. The truck is a beater, used mainly for travel around the farm. Lately, the truck has been draining the battery when it sits over 3 days (It sits alot). When i replace the battery and reattach the battery cable, there is an audible "click" near the left headlight, behind the washer fluid resovoir. Is there something in this area that would short out and cause this drain? I unplugged all the washer plugs, and it still clicks. The horn still works, and the radio is disconnected. HELP!
So, if thats the starter relay (I'm assuming like the old solenoid switch) then the drain could be anywhere. Well, I've been meaning to bring that new ammeter out of the box.....Thanks for the advice.
Ya those drains can be frustrating I had one back aways in my 1978 Ford and it was the voltage regulator that was staying on. One lil thing stays on and it drains man ....Ya have to break it down and check everything along the line........TR
I checked the starter relays (or whatever they were)- one was corroded and obviously bad - I unplugged it and the clicking stopped. I just left it unplugged, it still cranks. Oh, the next day my battery was dead again. During my search, I replaced a blown fuse and left the rear interior light on (lol)
