62 Unibody Question

First post!

I am currently about ready to purchase a 1962 F-100 w/ a 351W that is bored 20 over and has a small racing cam. Appears to be in very good shape with very little surface rust. Interior looks good. Guy is asking 2500 for it. Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks in advance.

First and foremost Welcome to FTE; this is the best site to provide you with any and all info for our Slicks.
I didn't pay attention to where your from; but most unibodies in my aera seem to hide rust real well, so I suggest your really look hard at the radiator support section mounts, cab mounting areas and door step inserts, also bed area around fender wells and front of the bed wall and floor, also a 351 is a much newer motor than originial install, (223 6 cylinder or a 292 V-8 are the orignial motors for 62 F100's) but if the truck is in great shape and over all condition is worth every penny in the eye of the beholder and including me, most good running trucks in my area range from $900 to 3k, which is a broad band; but I wish I could afford a 62 uni myself.
Again welcome and I hope this helps. View past post from the search menu up above for previous threads that cover is subject.

Also depends on if it is a short bed big window unit. Those as junk command larger dollars than standard small window units in reasonable shape.

Look under the truck there will be a torque box spotwelded from the rear of the cab to about 14 inches back on a short bed and 24 inches back on a long bed. any uni that does not have this intact is parts junk. It can be replaced but is a PITA.

Unis rot out behind the seat across where the torque box meets the floor pan also taking out the rear bottom panel that forms the front of the bed. Again it can be replaced but its a PITA.

clarify the truck a little finer and we can narrow it down some

Thanks guys! I am going to look at it tonight. I will let you know what I find out. I do know that the truck has mostly been kept in shelter. I will post what I find out.

I appreciate everyones comments. Here is what I found out. Overall, the truck is very sound. Very little rust, in fact most is surface. There is one spot that will require a little body work, as it is rusted through. Undercarriage is in great shape and has no rust. Motor runs and has had some work done to it. It is a 351W bored 40 over, has a racing cam in it and has about 25K miles on it. Interior was customized at one time and just needs to be freshened up. Best of all, I think I have him talked down to $1750.

Garbz-
It is a short bed w/ the big window unit. I thought they were all big window units for that year?! It also has the aluminum grill versus the painted grill. There is a lot of play in the steering, which I will invest in power steering.

Customcab-
I live in Bardstown, Ky. About 3 hours NE from you. Weather is about the same. I plan to keep this in the garage and I truly think 3K would have this truck looking pretty good.

So, with all that said, you will see my bright and smiley face around here a little more. Thank you again.

Chad
