My question is what could make the "OFF" light on the shift slector on A4OD blink, it only does it sometimes. It's shifts hard first to second, sometimes harder than others, butit did this before the light started to blink.Filter and fluid are brand new. All the "mechanics" i take it to won't give me any help or suggestions to what it could be. I just wnat to know if i can fix it myself insted of haveing to pay a fourtune for someone to replace a $20 part, ya know. Any ideas?? Thanks guys
The light blinking is a diagonstic trouble code for the transmission. You will have to have it scanned to learn anything. The hard shift is the result of the transmission being put into failsafe mode by the computer. It does this whenever a hard code is set.
do you scan for codes in the same place for the engine trouble codes, cause if so the only one pulled is 411(deals with the idle speed) and that's it. If not, how do you go about pulling codes for the transmission??
Trans codes are not always present when scanning for engine codes. You do scan for trans codes through the OBD2 port but you do have to select "transmission" when you go into the system. Some transmission codes do come up under "engine" but not all.
It may also be setting a soft code which flashes the light and makes it shift hard until the problem is no longer detected and then it goes back to normal. I would suggest that the next time you see the problem, go straight to have the codes read and do not turn the vehicle off until the codes are read.
It could be. It depends on the problem. Most importantly, a simple problem can cause a major transmission failure if its ignored. If the computer is setting a code (blinking the light) there is something wrong. You need to get it checked ASAP!
