Have a 71 f100. New brakes and all hardware including hoses, good alignment. When I put on brakes the truck will pull, usually to the right but sometimes to the left. I've read somewhere on this site about replacing the i-beam bushings, That it will improve overall handeling. Have not replaced them yet, everything else under the front is pretty much new. Any suggestions. Great site. Have always gotten answers here, oh yeah,is it easy to rejet a holley 600? thanks, Clint
Primaries are easy, just remove the front bowl and metering block. Jets screw into the block. Secondaries are just the same if it uses a block. If it uses a plate you have to drill out the orifices, no screw-in jets.
Yes, they pulled before the brake job. After the job they were fine for about 1k miles then started pulling, that makes me think it's not an alignment problem, but also kind of rules out I-beam bushings too. So I guess it has to be a self-adjustment problem? I replaced all wheel cylinders, cleaned all other parts real good. New shoes of course. Is it best to remove carb from engine to change jets? Thanks for your help! It's not so bad thats it's unsafe, just real aggrivating. Thanks! Clint.
Clint, I would pull off the front wheels and check everything for leaks. Then put the wheels back on and adjust the wheel bearings. Bleed the system again and set the adjusters for a slight drag. If it still does it I would start looking at steering and suspension components.
I would leave the carb. on the engine when changing jets. The intake manifold will get washed with gas when you remove the bowls, don’t smoke! Be careful you don’t tear the gaskets, especially if it’s never been apart since new.
You might want to readjust the rear brakes. If they wore in the automatic adjusters may not be keeping them evenly and tightly adjusted. If so one may "hit" before the other.
