The upside is if you can do that, you would be the first. The down side is it can't be done. I think you mean run WITH propane. There are lots of guys running it and having great results. The upside of that would be more power, downside is having to refill the tank. That's just my opinion.
actually the motor can be converted to run on LNG like alot of school busses, transit buses, trash trucks.....the conversion is EXPENSIVE. i know someone that does the conversions and the kit for the john deere motors that are getting used in school buses the kit and tank is about 10k. you get a cleaner burning fuel but you will burn more LNG than diesel and even though LNG is cheaper than diesel right now i think the price will come up also. and there are very limited LNG fueling stations. most of the places that use them in there fleet have there own filling station built at the yard.
propane injection i really like it on my truck, as long as its properly set it can add a bunch of horsepower without blowing up your motor. with good programming to go with the propane the egt increase is minimal but it does increase, your adding more fuel and burning more fuel. but i think its definately worth it.
The injection kit is about 8-900 without a tank. Of course you can use BBQ pit tanks in the bed if you want. The propane basically adds fuel to the engine. You burn diesel and propane at the same time. Bully dog has a system and MSD makes a new digital system that is available online at Jegs or probably other retailers.
You should monitor the EGT's if you chose to do propane injection. A larger exhaust will help as well.
I was all gung-ho on the idea of propane injection, but with a chip exhaust and gauges, you are looking about the same net result.
Yea, I think I am going to stick with getting a chip and gauges. I already have the 4" MBRP exhaust which I love of course! I was also thinking of getting an intercooler to lower my egt's.
