Hi all, I just got a new 06 F150 w/4.2 engine(up to 175 miles now).
This is a dumb question but I picked up a ford bug deflector and can not
figure out how to get the grill trim ring off so I get put it on. Instructions
say no tools but phillipss screwdriver. I really am not inept around cars and
trucks but, this time .
No problem here. You will need a 10 mm socket with extension. Open the hood and loo up under the front edge. Across the width of the hood, you will see 8 (I think that's the number) nuts with attached washers. These must all come off and there are also two brackets attaching the grill to the hood. Remove the fasteners that attach these brackets to the hood. Your grill will then come off.
Thanks guys,
I got it done today. I thought about just loosening the nuts but I couldn't get enough space without worrying about scraping the paint, and since I have only had it for two weeks I went ahead and took of the grill. It really was pretty easy. Now if we just knew who wrote the instructions which showed only a phillips head screwdriver needed. Last time I checked you needed a socket wrench to take off hex nuts.
I had the same instructions with mine. I too was surprised that all you needed was a Phillip's screwdriver. Kind of makes you wonder who wrote these directions and if they ever actually installed one of these things. I really do like the fit on this one the best though. And I also removed the whole grille, just to prevent damage on install.
the bug flector i got was by AVS. i got it at autozone and the instructions on it said to remove the bolts it didn't list any tools, but said no drilling required. and that was true.
